Paint decontamination
Washing removes dirt. Decontamination removes what washing leaves behind.
Even after a careful wash, automotive paint can still hold bonded contamination such as embedded iron particles, road fallout, industrial residue and other material that makes the surface feel rough or interferes with polishing and protection.
Hangar One Preservation uses a condition-based combination of chemical and mechanical decontamination to prepare the surface properly before paint correction, ceramic coating or other exterior preservation work.

Iron Removal
A dedicated iron-removal step helps dissolve ferrous contamination embedded in the paint and wheels that normal washing may not remove.

Clay Treatment
When bonded contamination remains, clay or another appropriate mechanical decontamination method may be used to refine the surface further.
03 / PREPARATION
Surface Evaluation
The paint is reassessed after decontamination so the next step—maintenance, correction or protection—is based on the actual condition of the finish.
Important
Clay treatment is not automatically used on every vehicle.
Mechanical decontamination can introduce light marring on some finishes. We use it when the condition of the paint calls for it, rather than treating clay as a mandatory step on every vehicle.

Remove loose dirt and road film, then inspect the paint for roughness, fallout and bonded contamination.

Chemical decontamination
Apply appropriate chemical decontamination, including iron removal where needed, to break down embedded contamination.

Mechanical treatment if needed
Use clay or another suitable method only where the surface condition justifies additional mechanical decontamination.

Reinspect & move forward
Evaluate the finish again and determine whether it is ready for protection, requires paint correction, or simply needs finishing care.
